The bank said Elon Musk described the manufacturing process as an S-curve, where the slowest component or production step determines the pace of the ramp, signaling that scale will take time. The report highlighted the robot hand as the main hardware bottleneck, with durability, tactile sensing, and dexterity still needing work before broader industrial or consumer deployment. JPMorgan also pointed to Tesla’s plan to integrate the AI5 chip into Optimus in April 2027, saying the chip could deliver roughly 10 times the compute of AI4, though hardware integration, software migration, and real-world task validation still lie ahead. Based on Tesla’s comments and JPMorgan’s field checks at the China International Industry Fair, the bank argued that near-term demand is concentrated in sensors, 3D vision, data collection hardware, reducers, and dexterous hands rather than full humanoid robot makers. It kept a more constructive view on component names including Hengli Hydraulic, Sanhua Intelligent Controls, Leader Drive, and Orbbec, while staying cautious on several robot OEMs.20
